A Success Story

"Jane" is a precocious youngster. She began the school year with some letter knowledge and a real motivation to learn more. Quickly, Jane absorbed the concepts of print during the RWS "Story Puzzle" as she was able to dictate sentences and see her words become published stories. Jane is now reading simple text and uses both phonetic awareness and sight words to decode.
Early in the new year, Jane composed a poem as she rode the bus to school:

"Spring is coming
Flowers are growing
People are glad"

We shared this verse with others by scheduling it for our early morning television show. How proud she seemed!
We are seeing other students eager to compose poetry now, too!

A Success Story

Over the course of the school year I was able to bring one group of students from below grade level (level 3 – primer) to grade level (level 8 – end of second grade). I teach second grade, so upon entering third grade the students will be on level 9 (beginning third grade). I am impressed with the fact that in Read with Sarah they are able to read more fluently as well as comprehend the stories so much better than at the beginning of the year.
