Week 1- Kindergarten

  • Annabelle Swift, Kindergartener
  • What Color is Nature
  • I am Polite

My baby is a Kindergartener! A real Kindergartener! And what a great time we’ve had this week with these books! As soon as I saw this week’s kit I remembered Annabelle Swift, Kindergartener from when my oldest son started Kindergarten, and it made my little Malachi feel like such a champ to be reading something his brother read! It also filled me with anticipation knowing that this will be the year that my little guy learns to read independently! I can’t wait!

The activity I want to highlight this week is the Gold Award. Although we enjoyed all 7 days of activities for Annabelle Swift, Kindergartener, and we also enjoyed What Color is Nature and I am Polite, it was the Gold Award that took the cake this week as the most fun and rewarding activity (probably because of the shiny award sticker). The instructions for the activity were to say a different real or nonsense word that rhymes with the word I say and then put a dot in 3 boxes for each one that rhymes. I read the following words: penny, nickel, ten, tag, and milk, and Malachi had to give a rhyming word for each one. This gave us the opportunity to talk about what makes 2 words rhyme (the middle and the end sounding the same), and what the difference is between a real word and a nonsense word. Although I only gave one Gold Award for completing the activity, Malachi wanted to play it over and over again, and he said something different every single time! I just love seeing him get excited about learning, and I love that he is so proud to earn his Gold Award! (The only thing I don’t love is when I forget to take the sticker off his shirt and it ends up in the washing machine.)

We are so glad to have AlphaSkills this year, and I can’t wait to see how my Kindergartener grows! For more information about the AlphaSkills Read with Sarah curriculum and our family, see the AlphaSkills Blog Introduction.
