There were crocodiles. There were noisy kids. There were rainbow wings. There were fire cookies. There was a hometown hero who became a national icon for justice. There was so much more. That was our third week of Second Grade!
The activity I want to highlight this week is the vocabulary portion of the Independent Assessment Booklet for Crocodile! Crocodile! This IAB is so helpful in reinforcing learning on so many different levels, but the vocabulary for this kit’s IAB was exceptional. Each IAB has several subject and learning concepts, but each one has a Crossword Challenge for the vocabulary portion. This week we learned meanings for the following words through the crossword: chemist, voice, dangerous, swamp, direction, terrified, bruised, gasp, fierce, thought, butcher, hedge, stepladder, chuckling, distance, wagon, piano, creature, dismal, pride, flapping, moment, overdue, and elevator. Although Malachi is making exceptional progress in the area of tests and IABs, we did have a little trouble this week with staying on-task with independent work. I love how the IAB helps us identify strengths and challenges and then gives us a mechanism to practice towards making it better!
